Funky old hotel that's one part retro/hipster/cool, one part The Shining. It's quiet and a little abandoned feeling on the inside, but the hostess was oh-so-pleasant and the complimentary breakfast was decadent! Oysters, shrimp and lobster bisque?! Def. an upgrade from the usual boring toaster station... I loved it! It was like staying at a cute old gran's house - but I will say, that my friend with allergies did wake up in a funk, saying she couldn't breathe in our room (I was fine and dandy, just a little warning).

Not impressed at all. The hotel is old, they are trying to fix it up, the doors are difficult to get in and out of with luggage. I like old buildings but they cut corners on trying to revamp this hotel. The room stunk, had to get another one, which was tolerable. The staff was okay, breakfast served was good and included. Parking is in a clumpy asphalt lot next door, uncovered. There would be no other reason to stay other than the breakfast. The tv in the room was an old style big box from the 90's. Stay somewhere else.

We stayed at the Savoy while in town for our first Chiefs home game ever. I have to say, I was expecting more. The hotel is definitely aged, and does have the feel of an old building, but the decor just seemed in between vintage and plain old. More often than not, i noticed things that were in disrepair that just shouldn't be. broken picture frames, a lock getting stuck, etc. generally minor things, but still fixable things. The worst of our stay was the radiator heaters. Ours banged and clanged all night. And of course, it's right next to the bed so it was extra loud. Plus, we think one of them leaked onto our bed. Not sure how it happened, but half of the bed was soaked when we came back and they had to switch our rooms. And the new room (directly upstairs) had a wet floor next to that radiator. That might have been the culprit, but we'll never know. As for the breakfast, it was definitely good. The best part about the whole stay. I doubt i'll be returning.

I came. I saw. I booked myself into the Marriott down the street. If I have the need to lay the bath towels down on the floor to make me a path from the bathroom to the bed....come on. Just gross.

When it comes to Yelp, I'm not normally the type to travel & tell, but I just have to geek out on the Savoy for a minute (and besides, it certainly gives some perspective on the Bay Area). Of course it's not *the* Savoy (that being in London), nor the inspiration for "Stompin' at the Savoy" (that being in Harlem). But it certainly has the historical pedigree that the name would suggest. Set in KC's fabulously brick downtown, the Savoy was originally an elite stop for the Railroad Baron crowd (and here's hoping they'll make a comeback after air travel collapses). The rooms have an antiquity that SF could only dream of (at least in this price range)--indeed, you can literally smell the history (the lack of A/C in the hallways helps a lot). And while some parts have been beautifully restored, other wings are still very much uninhabited (the other review's mention of The Shining is quite apropos). Downstairs is the sprawling lobby complex, complete with the oh-so-1920's Savoy Grill, and the nearby breakfast room. Did I mention the free breakfast? You get this big ol' menu and you just check 5 things off--want a broiled lamb chop, baked boston scrod, chicken a la king, lobster bisque, and eggs benedict? You got it (oh yeah, plus cinnamon rolls). Yes, it's a stereotypically Midwestern focus on quantity over quality--and here's where I've gotta dock them a star. I'd much rather take a quantity of food I can actually digest and have it be juicy and delicious, as opposed to dry and utilitarian. Seeing as they've had a massive farmer's market here for centuries before they became urban-hip, I know they've got the ingredients. Nevertheless, if you like a little (or a lot) of character in your lodgings, and you're headed for KC, the Savoy is the place for you.

I imagine if I ever have a real ghost encounter, it will be at this place. Lots of people find it charming, but I get flashbacks from The Shining....must just be me.

The Savoy Hotel is one of those places where you can envision yourself transported to it's heyday...which isn't today. The Savoy Hotel seems to be in a transition that goes beyond it's room remodeling. Once a great hotel and restaurant that served top society it's moving into an historic bed and breakfast. Neither is "bad", just different. The hotel front desk staff was a little too familiar (which was off putting). The room was large, oddly arranged, with a great view. My husband and I went for our anniversary so it was nice to be the only ones on our floor. Otherwise that could have been somewhat creepy. The best part of our stay was the breakfast. WOW! The white jacketed waiters catered to our every need while we feasted on delicious coffee, coquilles saint jacques, eggs benedict, and fresh fruit. The lobby architecture made me wish I was wearing a dress and little white gloves. I could almost hear big band music. If you love great food and service, have a terrific imagination, and want to have a secluded time away I highly recommend the Savoy Hotel.

Parking is a bit tight at this hotel, but it is located alongside the famous Country Club Plaza shopping and eating district. The rooms are nicely furnished and if you manage to snag a room overlooking The Plaza, you will get to see the beautiful lights at night. I love Kansas City and I absolutely adored this boutique hotel. The service was lovely and it definitely is all about location!
